Ice Cream for Breakfast: Ben and Jerry's Reveals Cereal Flavored Treats

You now have an excuse to sit in front of your favorite Saturday morning cartoons with a bowl of ice cream. Yes, ice cream. In honor of National Cereal Day, Ben and Jerry's, the Vermont-based mavens of frozen desserts, announced their "Cereal Splashback" on March 7, which introduces three new cereal flavored products to their expanding line of ice cream. Whether you and your friends want to enjoy them on cones or scoop with an ice cream spoons, you can now find these flavors at the company's retail locations.

The inspiration for the products grew out of pure childhood nostalgia. These flavors are meant to replicate the sugary sips at the bottom of a cereal bowl, Ben and Jerry’s Flavor Guru Eric Fredette said in a statement.

"So why combine ice cream and cereal? Because the sweet milk at the bottom of a cereal bowl is arguably the best part," he said in a statement. "We wanted to take our flavor concepts and make people feel like a kid again, which is how we landed with our Cereal Splashback flavors. There’s a flavor for every fan that will help bring them back to the prize-at-the-bottom-of-the-box days, watching Saturday morning cartoons in pajamas."

The new flavors listed on the Ben and Jerry's website are Cocoa Loco, Frozen Flakes, and Fruit Loot. Cocoa Loco is a spin on classic Cocoa Puffs with chocolate swirls spread throughout. The Frozen Flakes-inspired ice cream is described as "cereal milk ice cream with crisp cereal swirls." Fruit Loot also has a sugary cereal milk base but with fruity crisp swirls.

Again, these flavors are only available at the Ben and Jerry's scoop shops, so be sure to line up with a tasting spoon in hand, and of course, no judgment if you show up in your pajamas. That's exactly what Ben and Jerry's wants you to do.

"Get out your footie pajamas, because this is a cereal-ous blast from the past," the company wrote in the description of Frozen Flakes.

The average American eats ice cream 28.5 times per year, but with treats like these, some of us may be above average. With three memory-packed flavors to choose from, you might just have to try all three. While you're alternating between your three ice cream spoons, remember the simple, childhood thrill of the sugary cereal. Happy scooping!
