What Makes Color-Changing Spoons Work?

 Our color-changing mixed spoons are created based on a "cool" science concept called thermochromism. Thermochromic substances are materials that signal temperature change by changing colors. In the case of these spoons, we also use a temperature-sensitive dye (Leucodyes) that causes the mixed color-changing spoons to start as one color before changing to another when the temperature rises or falls.

Luecodyes are organic chemicals that can change color because of a shift in their molecules when some form of energy is applied. Whether the temperature is hot or cold, the molecules reflect light, thus changing the original color of the color-changing ice cream spoons.
