How to Throw Your Own Ice Cream Social

Spring is here! That means the weather is getting warmer and there will soon be far more excuses to indulge in ice cream (not like that's stopped the 90% of U.S. households that regularly indulge in the frozen treat, though). But as the weather outside becomes more pleasant, more opportunities arise to enjoy nature and come together in celebration. What better way to celebrate with your friends than to eat decadent ice cream sundaes?!

Technically speaking, this isn't exactly a new idea. In fact, ice cream socials date back to as early as the 18th century. They were often organized by churches and were fashioned after "ice cream gardens" that were common in society at the time.

While ice cream gardens aren't exactly the norm in popular society today (though we wish they were) that shouldn't stop you from throwing your own ice cream social. June might be the most popular month for ice cream, but as far as we're concerned, once the sun is shining it's time to pull out those tasting spoons!

Throwing Your Own Ice Cream Social The first step of throwing an ice cream social is setting the scene. Make your own home or backyard into an old-fashioned ice cream parlor by pulling out all of the stops. Custom ice cream cups, lids, glass bowls, and cones are a must. Make a generously varied topping bar and place in matching glass bowls, arranging them on a silver tray for added effect. Obtain a chalkboard with a wooden frame and write the flavors of the day, as well as the toppings you have to offer. For guests who want to take their treats on-the-go, providing ice cream lids is a kind courtesy. And don't forget the spoons!

Before you set your ice cream out, you need to get the word out about your sweet, sweet shindig. If you're pressed for time, simply create a Facebook event or custom e-mail. But if you want to be old-fashioned, send out a written invite via snail mail. Your guests will appreciate the sentiment.

From there, it's time to stock up on flavors! Pick a few classics that everyone will love, then mix it up with some unpredictable additions. Among consumers, vanilla is considered the most popular flavor. Other popular flavors are chocolate and Neopolitan.

From there, it's up to you to enjoy!
