2017 Ice Cream Trends That Are Still Cool in 2018

A lot happened in 2017. Men started wearing rompers (or romphims, to be correct), Anna Faris and Chris Pratt ended their marriage, and someone sabotaged the Hollywood sign. But most importantly, there were a bunch of ice cream-related trends in 2017, and if you didn't get your hands on any of them, 2018 is the year to do so.

The first trend from 2017 that you probably missed among the chaos of George Bush Jr. getting tangled up in a poncho is charcoal ice cream. Perfect for your Instagram feed, charcoal ice cream can be found at Morgenstern in New York and Frankie and Jo's in Seattle. The shops use activated charcoal in their black coconut ash-flavor, which detox enthusiasts love. While it may seem like a really unique flavor, the charcoal taste is virtually invisible to the palate.

You've probably seen the trend of rolled ice cream all over social media, but chances are you've never actually tried the frozen dessert. For almost 10 years, these frozen treats have been a major must-have on the streets of Thailand, the Phillippines, Cambodia, and Malaysia. But they just recently started making their way to U.S. soil within the past few years. The liquid ice cream is made using dessert supplies like a frozen anti-griddle. Then, the dessert artists take dessert supplies like a spatula and roll the flattened treat. It's then served in bowls or in cones. You can get this sweet treat in many different flavors with a variety of toppings (well, more like fillings in this case).

One final ice cream trend from 2017 is a Puffle cone. While it may sound like the weirdest name ever, it's actually quite tasty. These cones, or bubble waffles, have made their way to the United States in recent months and are typically filled with ice cream and other toppings. While most people enjoy the cone without any toppings, filling it with ice cream is definitely going to give you the sweet treat you've been craving.
